Responsible AI in Hackathons: How to Build with LLMs & Copilot Without Disqualification

Writing code faster isn't a competitive advantage in 2026—building dependable systems that orchestrate AI intelligently while deeply understanding the underlying architecture is what wins championships.

Acceleration vs. Fraud: Where Juries Draw the Line

Using GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or ChatGPT to generate boilerplate, write regex, and debug errors is fully permitted. However, cloning full finished projects from GitHub or submitting code you cannot explain during Phase 2 live technical defense leads to immediate disqualification.

High-Scoring AI Patterns in 2026

  • Structured Data Extraction: Converting messy user complaints into typed JSON schemas.
  • Localized RAG: Vector search (pgvector) on regional regulations and multilingual Kannada/English datasets.
  • Multimodal Document Triage: Vision models analyzing meter readings, bills, or road distress images.

Phase 1 Submission Standard: resource.md & Google Drive Video

To guarantee zero git push failures and swift evaluation by industry reviewers, all Phase 1 submissions must follow the single standard protocol:

  • Central Landing File (resource.md): Place a resource.md file in the root of your GitHub repository containing links to your live MVP, Google Drive video, slide deck, and decision log.
  • Single Video Rule (Google Drive Only): Upload your 10-minute continuous pitch & code walkthrough video to Google Drive, set permission to "Anyone with the link can view", and link it inside resource.md. Do not upload video files directly to GitHub.
  • 1-Page Decision Log: Answer the 3 architectural trade-off questions in submission/decision-log.pdf (carries 25% of total Phase 1 score).
